Worrying ...

I was riding my lil ole 2-wheeler home from the office last evening when it showed signs of beginning to rain (dark clouds, slightly cooler Chennai warmth, a few ice-cold drops ...)

Fortunately I had a rain-jacket in my backpack along with my laptop, backup external hard-drive, cell-phones, screwdriver kit, thumb-drives, camera cards, etc .... So I stopped, unzipped the right compartment and took out my rain-jacket. Had just struggled into it (while waiting for an interminable red-light to change), when the light actually became amber!

I quickly finished putting on my jacket, slung my backpack on and congratulated myself that I'd managed to do all that just as the light changed to green.

Sure enough, the rain came down pretty heavily and continued all the way home.

Short-story: I made it home without much else happening -- besides the incessant honking, lane-cutting, zipping past "educated" drivers (both 2 and 4-wheelers) and the first thing I noticed was ... yeah, I had forgotten to zip up my backpack!!!

Again, fortunately, all my stuff was well-protected in plastic covering (you see, I'm a veteran 2-wheeler driver in Chennai, where the monsoons have to be experienced to be believed) and thankfully they all still work!

What's worrying is that up to just 6 months ago, I would never have forgotten to zip up! Age catching up???

Bullying - superstore style

Today (May 29, 2011 -- 08.45 a.m), we decided to buy groceries from a new store, for a change.

Bad idea!

There was no place at all to park, except next door under a tiny tree -- and that too after requesting the security guard's permission.

Next thing I knew, I heard an ear-splitting honk-honk from behind which made my heart race and my BP go up a few points! I looked around and it turned out to be a delivery van for the aforesaid superstore. The driver, in most rude terms, told me to move away as he needed to park there in order to deliver some stuff. I naturally refused, as I was waiting for my wife who was a paying customer within the "superstore"!

He then threatened to call the manager, and promptly did when I refused to budge. When the manager came out to add his two-bits to that of the driver's, I continued to stand my ground because I knew I was in the right. I was parked away from the store and nobody from the store had any right to make me move.

The driver then moved his van dangerously close to my little two-wheeler, (see pic) ...

... and my heart-rate and BP went up a few notches more! All this is not good for me as I am already on heart medication. (A closer look at how close the van came to my two-wheeler can be seen in the pic below. Thank goodness I was not sitting on it at the time, as my foot or something might have been injured!)

What's more surprising, (though why I can't tell you) is that the loaders were more polite! It is a very poor reflection on where our society's going when the so-called uneducated class has more manners than the so-called educated!

Well I for one have come to a decision. Neither I nor any member of my family (and I'm requesting via this post all members of my extended family and my friends to support me in this) will never ever buy another product made by this brand. Nor will we ever visit the "superstore" again for anything!

Childish? May be. But any store that unjustly takes the side of its errant delivery boys will be boycotted by me every time!

No beginning yet...

Well... it appears as though things haven't changed much. Haven't plucked up the courage to begin anew... so what else is new!!

Health-wise, things are pretty much their dreary same. S, though, appears to be dwindling because of her mom's demise recently. Wish she'd realize that we all depend on her to hold us together. Without her, we'd all probably drift apart.

Ahh maudlin, thy name is me!!

More later...

The end is the beginning

2008 | 02 | 06 -- 18:32

What happens when your gut tells you it's time to eat? You listen, don't you? You make sure you satisfy that hunger that makes your stomach burn for something nutritious.

Well then. What happens when your gut tells you your time's up? Don't you think you should listen and look for some other place to spend what time you've left? As it is our time on this planet is limited. Wouldn't it be great if we could spend it happily?

That's right. We would love that scenario, wouldn't we?

So let's begin with the end, then. The end of everything that you've worked for; the end of everything you've believed in; the end of trust; the end of 'friendship'... in short, you've suddenly discovered that your idol has feet of clay!

Time to move on...

More tomorrow.
