Worrying ...

I was riding my lil ole 2-wheeler home from the office last evening when it showed signs of beginning to rain (dark clouds, slightly cooler Chennai warmth, a few ice-cold drops ...)

Fortunately I had a rain-jacket in my backpack along with my laptop, backup external hard-drive, cell-phones, screwdriver kit, thumb-drives, camera cards, etc .... So I stopped, unzipped the right compartment and took out my rain-jacket. Had just struggled into it (while waiting for an interminable red-light to change), when the light actually became amber!

I quickly finished putting on my jacket, slung my backpack on and congratulated myself that I'd managed to do all that just as the light changed to green.

Sure enough, the rain came down pretty heavily and continued all the way home.

Short-story: I made it home without much else happening -- besides the incessant honking, lane-cutting, zipping past "educated" drivers (both 2 and 4-wheelers) and the first thing I noticed was ... yeah, I had forgotten to zip up my backpack!!!

Again, fortunately, all my stuff was well-protected in plastic covering (you see, I'm a veteran 2-wheeler driver in Chennai, where the monsoons have to be experienced to be believed) and thankfully they all still work!

What's worrying is that up to just 6 months ago, I would never have forgotten to zip up! Age catching up???

The Lion Roars!

Installed OSX Lion last night! Began the 3.74GB download at 7.05PM and am up-and-running at 22.40. (Excuse poor quality of pix below -- taken in bad light at home!)

This includes time taken to back up my Snow-Leopard data!

That's awesome Apple! Not a hitch!

App Store getting updated

The time in Asia ... 16:38 hours ...

Apple's OSX code-named "Lion" release ...

OSX "Lion" has been confirmed by Apple to launch on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

It hasn't yet been released on a Mac App Store in Asia (as of 2.15pm). It is also now July 20 in Cupertino. Perhaps the release will be nearer 9 o'clock - Cupertino time?

Anyway, let's keep waiting and watching ...

iPhone 4.0 iOS 4.3.4

Today: updated my Apple iPhone 4 s/w to 4.3.4 ... the result closes any loophole in opening a malicious pdf, thereby adding to Apple's security! Awesome ... just 10 days after the loophole was discovered!

Slept in peace till lunch-time! :)

Mac App Store Intermittently Down for Some Users - MacRumors.com

As reported by MacRumors.com (Mac App Store Intermittently Down for Some Users - MacRumors.com) the Mac App Store _is_ down! Here's a pic from my Mac at 07.41 this morning ...

Does this mean that the Lion is coming later today?

Skype 5.2

Well, today Skype released Version 5.2.0.1523 (an upgrade from its previous Version, obviously) for Macs.

Not much different that I could see after upgrading, and Skype's website indicates the same old stuff for the free version -- Skype-to-Skype calls; One-to-one video calls; Instant messaging; and Sending files. The upgraded version is supposed to allow better group video calls and group desktop sharing, but at least one person in the group needs to have the Premium (paid) version to be eligible for this.

If I notice anything earth-shatteringly different, beyond the slightly-improved speed of access, will post my findings here...

Apple's Lion and iOS5

Well I'm back after a month! Went holidaying for a bit and lazed for the rest. :) Hope I'll be able to keep this going now ...

Apple has promised its new Operating System -- Lion -- "in July" priced at just under $30! I registered on their website to be notified when the update is ready and intend to be one of the first to get it! From what I've seen of the Keynote videos and other "hands-on" blogs from some developers, it is awesome! (Wish I had a multi-touch trackpad on my oldish MacBook so that I can better enjoy the swipes and pinches which make Lion such an enjoyable experience!) Windows 8, too, has a few nifty multi-touch gestures built into it but nothing in my opinion to touch the king of the jungle!

Another upgrade promised "in the fall" by Apple is their new iOS5. As I'm primarily interested only in the iPhone 4 upgrade, I'll confine myself to that. Here, too, multi-touch gestures have been built into the OS and this, together with a new notification system and over 200 other tweaks, make iOS5 very, very desirable indeed. I've registered to be notified of this too and can't wait for it to happen!

Will write more when I finally upgrade both my MacBook and my iPhone 4. (Even toying with the idea of buying a new Mac with a multi-touch trackpad and the new Thunderbolt I/O port, just so I'll enjoy the Lion experience better!)
